Final Report due Dec. 1, 2004.
The Joint Committee on the State's Emergency Medical Response System was created in July 2003 (Chapter 479, Acts of 2003).
The structure and funding of emergency medical response systems in Maryland will be studied by the Committee. Its review will cover current and projected fund balances in the Maryland Emergency Medical Systems Operations Fund, the availability of federal funds for homeland security and bioterrorism response, and the funding needs of trauma centers, first-responders, firefighters, and emergency medical personnel. The structure of the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems and how the Institute functions within the State's emergency medical response system also will be examined by the Committee. In addition, the Committee is to compare the methods used by other states for meeting emergency medical response needs with those used in Maryland.
