In October 2003, the Task Force to Study the Availability of Audiology and Speech-Language Services was formed (Chapter 194, Acts of 2003). The Task Force will study and consider both the scope of services provided by licensed audiologists and speech-language pathologists in public schools and their availability. Also to be observed are how many children are in need of hearing and speech-language services and actually received these services in public schools. Additionally, the Task Force will see how audiology and speech-language services affect the costs of public education in the State.
The Task Force shall determine the need, if any, for audiologists and speech-language pathologists in public schools and how to recruit and retain them. Also, the Task Force is to decide whether the current caseloads and workloads for audiologists and speech-language pathologists need to be adjusted to increase services for children in need.
Authorization for the Task Force extends to June 30, 2004.
