In August 2003, the Maryland Military Installation Strategic Planning Council was established (Chapter 335, Acts of 2003). The Council is to look at what Maryland can do to prepare for the Efficient Facilities Initiative of the U.S. Department of Defense, scheduled for 2005. The Initiative is a review process expected to result in closures of military bases across the United States.
In December 2003, the Council submitted an interim report to the Governor and General Assembly. The Council continues to monitor the federal review process.
Authorization for the Council continues through December 31, 2005.
